Tandem Skydiving Equipment

Tandem skydiving equipment is a special type of parachute system used for skydiving with two people at once. The passenger sits in front of the instructor, who is in charge of controlling the parachute. Tandem parachutes are designed to be stable and easy to control, making them a popular choice for beginners and experienced skydivers alike.

Harness The harness is the part of the tandem parachute system that connects the parachute to the jumper. It is made of a strong, durable material and is designed to provide a comfortable and secure fit. The harness has a number of straps and buckles that can be adjusted to fit the jumper’s individual body size and shape.

The harness typically has a chest strap, a waist strap, and a leg strap. The chest strap goes around the jumper’s chest and shoulders, the waist strap goes around the waist, and the leg strap goes around the legs. The leg strap is often adjustable so that it can be tightened or loosened to ensure a snug fit.

The harness also has a back pad that provides lumbar support and helps to distribute the weight of the parachute evenly. The back pad is also designed to cushion the jumper in the event of a hard landing.

Canopy The canopy is the fabric part of the tandem parachute that catches the air and slows the jumper down. Tandem parachute canopies are typically made of ripstop nylon, which is a strong and lightweight material that is resistant to tearing. The canopy has a number of cells, which are small pockets of air that help to stabilize the parachute and make it more efficient.

The canopy is attached to the harness by a riser system. The risers are long straps that connect the canopy to the harness at several points. The risers can be adjusted to control the deployment and flight of the parachute.

Reserve Parachutes

All tandem parachutes must have a reserve parachute, which is a backup parachute that can be deployed if the main parachute fails to open properly. The reserve parachute is typically stowed in a container on the harness. The reserve parachute is automatically deployed if the main parachute fails to open within a certain number of seconds.

AAD

All tandem parachutes must also have an automatic activation device (AAD), which is a device that can deploy the reserve parachute automatically if the jumper falls too fast or if the harness fails to deploy the reserve parachute. The AAD is a safety device that helps to ensure that the jumper will always have a parachute to slow them down and prevent a fatal accident.

Uses

Tandem parachutes are used for skydiving with two people at once. The passenger sits in front of the instructor, who is in charge of controlling the parachute. Tandem parachutes are a popular choice for beginners and experienced skydivers alike because they are stable and easy to control.

Benefits

The benefits of tandem skydiving include:

  • The opportunity to experience the thrill of skydiving without the need for any prior experience or training.
  • The comfort of being able to relax and enjoy the experience while the instructor takes care of all the technical aspects of skydiving.
  • The security of knowing that the tandem parachute system is designed to be safe and reliable.

Safety

Tandem skydiving is a safe activity when it is conducted by experienced and qualified professionals. However, there are always some risks involved in any type of skydiving, regardless of whether it is being done solo or tandem. The most important thing to do is to choose a reputable skydiving center and to make sure that the instructor is experienced and qualified.
